What a Reims Champagne half-day tour actually is

It is about four hours in a small van with a guide, out of Reims to the villages and back. You visit two family growers, taste six glasses between them, and see the vines on the way. The groups are small: eight people at most on every departure.

Every half day pours at family growers, never at a big house. That is a choice, not a limit: a grower makes champagne from its own vines, and the family often pours it for you in its own cellar.

The e-bike afternoon is the other kind of half day. You ride about 15 km through the vines above Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and finish with three tastings in one family cellar.

Why choose a half-day tour

Fixed times from one square

À La Française leaves the Reims station square at 9:20 am and at 2:00 pm. ABC Champagne Tour leaves Reims station at 1:30 pm, or the Épernay tourist office at 2:00 pm. You know when you are back before you book.

Family growers, not big houses

You meet the people who grow the grapes. A big house's cellar tour you can book yourself in Reims; a grower's table in a village is much harder to reach alone.

Eight people at most

Every half day caps its van at eight, so you can ask the grower questions and hear the answers.

A lower fare than a full day

A half day costs $140 to $183 per person. A shared full day from Reims costs $245 to $321.

Half-day tours vs a full day from Reims

The alternative is a full day with a big house and lunch. Here is how the two compare.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a half-day champagne tour from Reims?
Yes. À La Française runs a morning tour at 9:20 am and an afternoon tour at 2:00 pm to two family growers, ABC Champagne Tour an afternoon from Reims station at 1:30 pm, and there is an afternoon on e-bikes in the vines near Aÿ. None of them visits a big house.
Should I take the morning or the afternoon half day?
The morning tour leaves the station square at 9:20 am and is back at 1:15 pm, so lunch and a house visit fit after it. The afternoon tour leaves at 2:00 pm and is back at 6:30 pm, which suits a morning train from Paris.
Do the half-day tours visit a big house?
No. The half days pour at family growers only. If you want Maison Mumm or another big house as well, take a full day, or book a house's own cellar tour for the other half of your day.
Where do Reims Champagne tours start?
Most shared tours from Reims start at the tourist information point on the Reims Centre station square, the Cour de la Gare, not at the main tourist office beside the cathedral. Private tours collect you from a hotel or station in Reims or Épernay.
What happens if I book a shared tour alone?
À La Française's shared tours need at least two people. A lone booking is moved to another date or refunded in full, so check before you build a trip around the date.
Is there an e-bike champagne tour?
Yes: an afternoon of about 15 km on e-bikes in the vines from Le Clos Corbier at Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, with transport from Reims if you choose it, a cellar visit and three glasses. Riders must be 16 or over, and in rain or storms it runs by people carrier.
Can children come on a champagne tour?
On some. À La Française's shared tours take no one under 10, the e-bike afternoon needs riders of 16 or over, and nobody under 18 is served alcohol. Uncork's private Moët & Chandon day and the Coutant vineyard visit accept children and carry infant seats.
Can I cancel a booking?
Most tours refund in full if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. À La Française's private growers day with lunch and LinkParis' Veuve Clicquot day by train are non-refundable, and the Club Trésors tasting needs two days' notice. Each card states its own policy.
