A house, two growers and lunch in one day

À La Française's Mumm day starts on the Reims station square: the house's cellars with its own guide, then two family producers and lunch at a grower's table.

What a Reims Champagne day tour actually is

It is seven to nine hours in the vineyards, starting from Reims or Épernay rather than Paris. You visit two or three producers, and most days add Hautvillers, the hillside village of Dom Pérignon's abbey, and the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, 27 km from Reims.

A day tour is the only shared way to put a big house and family growers in the same day. On the Mumm day, Maison Mumm's own guide takes you through its cellars under Reims, and then two family producers pour for you in the villages. On Champagne Dream Tour's day, the house is Pommery.

The rest of the days are private. Your party rides alone, the guide collects you, and the houses change with your request and their availability.

Why choose a day tour

A big house and the growers, side by side

You taste a house's cuvée in its chalk cellars in the morning and a grower's own wine at the family table in the afternoon. The contrast is the point: a house buys grapes from across the region, a grower makes champagne from its own vines.

Lunch is in the fare on most days

The Mumm day, the Pommery day and most private days put lunch in the price, often at a grower's table or in Épernay. Sparkling Tour's day serves three courses with a glass of champagne.

Two hours at each estate

Wine Tours Paris gives you about two hours at each of two estates, with a sommelier or a local guide. A half day gives each table an hour to an hour and a half.

Hautvillers and Épernay are on the route

Most full days take in the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay and stop in Hautvillers, where Dom Pérignon's tombstone lies in the choir of the Saint-Sindulphe church.

Day tours vs half-day tours

The main alternative is a half day from the Reims station square. Here is how the two compare, using each listing's own figures.

Check availability from $292

If you have the whole day and want a big house as well as the growers, a full day is the only way to get both. If you would rather spend the morning in Reims and taste in the afternoon, a half day is enough.

What you get, and what you don't

Two estates and Hautvillers, from the cathedral

Who should choose something else

Frequently asked questions

How long is a Reims Champagne tour?
Half days run 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes, full days from Reims 7 to 9 hours, and days from Paris 9 to 12 hours. The tastings in town take one to two hours.
What time do the day tours from Reims start?
Wine Tours Paris meets at the left gate of Reims Cathedral at 9:30 am, and Sparkling Tour at the Reims station square at 9:30 am. The Mumm day prints no time on its listing: your confirmation gives it. Private days set the time with you.
Is a shared day tour much cheaper than a private one?
Yes. A shared day from Reims costs $245 to $321 per person, for seven or eight people at most. A private day costs $525 to $848 per person, and most need at least two of you.
Is lunch included on a champagne tour?
On many full days from Reims it is, among them the Mumm day, Sparkling Tour's three-grower day and Royal Journey France's private days, and on the Veuve Clicquot day by train from Paris. The half days include no food, and several Paris days stop for a lunch you pay for yourself.
How many glasses do you taste on a tour?
Six on the half-day grower tours from the station square, seven on the Mumm day, and ten on Stéphane Demissy's private day and on the Veuve Clicquot day by train. The tasting in a city cellar pours three.
Can I visit Épernay on a tour from Reims?
Yes. Most full days include the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, and the Mumm day and ABC Champagne Tour's afternoon can also start from Épernay. The jeep ride in the vines starts there too.
Can children come on a champagne tour?
On some. À La Française's shared tours take no one under 10, the e-bike afternoon needs riders of 16 or over, and nobody under 18 is served alcohol. Uncork's private Moët & Chandon day and the Coutant vineyard visit accept children and carry infant seats.
Can I cancel a booking?
Most tours refund in full if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. À La Française's private growers day with lunch and LinkParis' Veuve Clicquot day by train are non-refundable, and the Club Trésors tasting needs two days' notice. Each card states its own policy.
